Abstract
Intraoperative real-time ultrasonography was performed in 7 hydrocephalic infants who were undergoing either initial placement of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt (6 patients) or shunt revision (1 patient). In all cases the shunt tubing was easily identified as it was advanced into the lateral ventricle. Optimal positioning of the shunt tube tip anterior to the foramen of Monro was readily accomplished.
