This special issue of the European Economic Review contains four papers that were originally presented and discussed at the International Seminar on Macroeconomics (ISOM) at the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme in Paris on June 21-22, 1983. The Paris meeting, the sixth in a continuing series of annual meetings, brought together 23 economists from Belgium, France. Germany, Japan, Italy, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States. This is the fifth annual special issue devoted to the proceedings of the ISOM.
