This special issue of the European Economic Review contains seven papers on the general theme of supply-side impediments to economic growth in Europe. Each paper was originally presented and discussed at the International Seminar on Macroeconomics (ISOM) at the Facultés Universitaires Notre Dame de la Paix in Namur, Belgium, on June 23-24, 1986. The Namur meeting, the ninth in a continuing series of annual meetings, brought together 26 economists from Belgium, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States. This is the eighth special issue devoted to the proceedings of the ISOM.
