Light diffraction: studies on striated muscle

Abstract

Through the use of light diffraction the average length of sarcomeres in a region of striated muscle can be rapidly and accurately determined. Changes in sarcomere length accompanying shortening or those occurring during an isometric tetanus can be precisely resolved.
