Abstract

The thermo-induced martensite transformation of 1D SMA polycrystalline body which proceeds by the two-phase zone migration from the cooled boundary converting the SMA body from an austenite to a martensite state is presented. Special attention is devoted to the comparison between the physics of two-phase austenite-martensite zone and a two-phase solid-liquid zone. The hidden mathematical structure of the constitutive and kinetic laws which give rise to multivaluedness of the martensitic fraction and global memory features of these laws is discussed.
