Abstract
Patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding can be clinically challenging to manage effectively. These patients are associated with significant admission rates, health care costs, and mortality risk. This article outlines the general approach to management of these patients. In addition, this article explores the multiple causes of upper gastrointestinal bleeding from the esophagus, stomach, and small bowel, and the recommended treatment of these respective sources of bleeding.
