Measurements of the transverse sound phase velocity in superfluid 3He-B

Abstract

We have observed an evolving standing wave pattern with 60.8 MHz transverse sound in superfluid 3He-B at pressures between 1 and 3 bar. We have used this data to measure the change in the inverse of the phase velocity as a function of temperature, and have made comparisons with the existing theory at 2.49 bar.
