Abstract

Measurements of Mg composition profiles at the subnanoscale level were performed. Results were compared to the predictions of first-principles calculations. The calculations established a pronounced electronic driving force for the segregation of Mg to coherent Al/Al3Sc interfaces in this model two-phase ternary alloy system.
