Abstract
The analysis of multistage thermoelectric microcoolers, focusing on the optimization of the maximum temperature difference, was carried out. The design principle was developed to obtain the maximum cooling capactity of two-stage thermoelectric coolers. A two-stage thermoelectric microcooler was designed for the thermal management of a 10 mW mid-infrared laser. The heat leakage issue, which was the most important degradation mechanism for the performance of thermoelectric microcoolers was also discussed.
