Abstract

The near-noiseless optical amplification of laser light in a phase-sensitive fiber amplifier (PSA) was reported. It provided a noise figure of 1.2 dB with a gain of 1.7 dB. This was found to be an improvement over the conventional laser amplifier which had a theoretical limit of noise figure of 1.2 dB. The positive gain regime was investigated where the fiber PSA was used to boost the signal power.
