Abstract

Noncoding RNA (ncRNA) genes are emerging as versatile regulators of gene expression and function. However, our knowledge about ncRNAs remains limited. Here, we review recent studies on the role of ncRNAs in neurodevelopment and neurodegeneration. A global picture of the complex networks regulating and regulated by ncRNAs is just beginning to emerge. Great challenges remain in understanding the biological function of thousands of ncRNAs and their involvement in the pathogenesis of human diseases.
