Abstract
Using 13.5 [Formula Presented] of [Formula Presented] annihilation data collected with the CLEO II detector, we have observed a narrow resonance decaying to [Formula Presented] with a mass near [Formula Presented] The search for such a state was motivated by the recent discovery by the BaBar Collaboration of a narrow state at [Formula Presented] the [Formula Presented] that decays to [Formula Presented] Reconstructing the [Formula Presented] and [Formula Presented] final states in CLEO data, we observe peaks in both of the corresponding reconstructed mass difference distributions, [Formula Presented] and [Formula Presented] both of them at values near [Formula Presented] We interpret these peaks as signatures of two distinct states, the [Formula Presented] plus a new state, designated as the [Formula Presented] Because of the similar [Formula Presented] values, each of these states represents a source of background for the other if photons are lost, ignored or added. A quantitative accounting of these reflections confirms that both states exist. We have measured the mean mass differences [Formula Presented] for the [Formula Presented] state, and [Formula Presented] for the new [Formula Presented] state. We have also searched, but find no evidence, for decays of the two states via the channels [Formula Presented] and [Formula Presented] The observations of the two states at 2.32 and [Formula Presented] in the [Formula Presented] and [Formula Presented] decay channels, respectively, are consistent with their interpretations as [Formula Presented] mesons with an orbital angular momentum [Formula Presented] and spin and parity [Formula Presented] and [Formula Presented]
