Abstract

Free-base and metal-substituted 2, 3, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 18-octakis(methylthio)tetraazaporphyrins have been synthesized and characterized. The Mg, Ni, and Cu derivatives are discussed. The method of preparation presents a synthetic procedure for a range of (alkylthio)- or (arylthio)tetraazaporphyrins. Electron paramagnetic resonance measurements are reported for copper octakis(methylthio)tetraazaporphyrin (g‖ = 2.14, g± = 2.06, (aCu) = 95; A‖Cu = 215; AN = 19.9, CN = 15.0) and for the S = 1 dimer (D = 400 G).
