Abstract

The NSF Workshop on Infrastructure for Mobile and Wireless Systems, held on October 15, 2001 in Scottsdale, AZ, was discussed. Various topics including the role of an infrastructure for wireless mobile networking and the desirable components of such an infrastructure, were discussed. There was a general agreement among the participants that the infrastructure should handle wireless cellular networks that rely primarily on single hop communications to a fixed base station that is connected to a wired network as well as ad hoc networks. It was suggested that the various infrastructure components must work all together and these components must be tested in a high scale environment before being adopted.
