Abstract

QCD predicts the existence of 'exotic' structures, prominent among them being those with explicit gluonic degrees of freedom, such as qq̄g hybrids and gg gluons. We report here the discovery of JPC - 1+- mesons which must be exotic (most likely qq̄g) because qq̄ mesons can not have these quantum numbers. One such meson with mass ∼ 1370 MeV has been identified in its decay into ηπ-, and a second with mass ∼ 1600 MeV has been identified in both ρπ- and ηπ- decay channels.
