Abstract
Optical stress analysis techniques and their application to the study of deformation and fracture of composite materials are described and discussed. These include photoelastic coatings, moire grids, holographic interferometry, and liquid crystals. All these techniques have different advantages and limitations. The selection of any one or more of these depends on each particular application.
