Abstract
The optical properties of Mn-Mg-codoped epitaxial GaN were analyzed. It was indicated by the change in the photoluminescence (PL) spectra that the Mg addition stabilizes the Mn 4+ charge state by decreasing the Fermi level. It was shown that the 1 eV PL peaks are tentatively attributed to intracenter transitions involving Mn 4+ ions. The results show that the relative intensities of the shear peaks are strongly dependent on the excitation wavelength, indicating that the optically active Mn 4+ centers involved in the separate peaks are different.
