Optical pulse self-processing in nonlinear periodic systems

Abstract

We review progress in periodically nonlinear devices for optical signal processing. We focus on applications in pulse reshaping including optical limiting. We discuss the design of devices towards a specific application and identify the properties of materials and structures needed to implement these objectives.
