Abstract

Nonthermal emission of high-energy X-rays from the Coma Cluster is predicted from the presence of diffuse intracluster radio synchrotron emission. We have observed the Coma Cluster with the OSSE experiment, onboard the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory, for a total on-source time of 4.4 days. No significant emission was detected. The flux upper limit, combined with the known radio flux, leads to a lower limit of ∼1 × 10-7 G on the mean intracluster magnetic field in the central region of the Coma Cluster.
