Abstract
From a study of the (p,t) reaction on Sc45 and Ca44, Jπ of the 1.41-MeV state in Sc43 is inferred to be 72-. It is found that both the absolute cross sections and angular distribution shapes for this transition are almost identical with those for the transition to the 1.84-MeV 02+ state in Ca42 (as are the corresponding ground-state transitions). It is suggested that the 1.41-MeV state in Sc43 consists primarily of the 02+ excited state of the Ca42 core with an f72 proton weakly coupled to it, just as Sc43(g.s.) consists mainly of Ca42(g.s.) plus an f72 proton.
