Abstract

Parasomnias are defined as dysfunctions and undesirable events or experiences that occur during the onset of sleep, during sleep, or during arousals from sleep. They are typically associated with central nervous system activation, skeletal muscle activity, and/or autonomic nervous system manifestations. Parasomnias are considered clinical disorders because they can result in injury, sleep disruption, untoward psychological effects, and other adverse health effects.
