Abstract

Within the subject content of parathyroid conservation that comprises this article, no attempt has been made to be encyclopedic, scholarly, or comprehensive. The subject is too vast to presume such and, moreover, it has been addressed thoroughly and competently by distinguished colleagues in diverse publications. Rather, the attempt here is to present a scaled down, low-fat-content version of the barest anatomicosurgical concepts on which to build the theoretical clinical and surgical appreciation of parathyroid conservation. A listing, which can only be partial, of suggested reading material is included at the end and the reader is urged to peruse those writings as well as taking advantage of the worthwhile bibliographic references appended to those works.
