Abstract
The precise role of animal microbodies in cellular metabolism remains to be elucidated. However, several studies suggest that microbodies may play a significant, but as yet unclarified, role in a variety of functions such as gluconeogenesis, cholesterol and steroid metabolism and detoxification of hydrogen peroxide. The possibility that microbodies may have different functions in different tissues is to be considered, although their role in lipid metabolism and in detoxification of H2O2 may be considered universal.
