Abstract

Eight different cases for obtaining the potential energy surfaces of image potential states and the corresponding charge densities were considered. The dielectric continuum model was extended to include a linearized Fermi-Thomas metal. As a result, a systematic determination of the dependence of the inverse Fermi screening length of the metal, and the electron affinity, the dielectric constant and the thickness of the dielectric medium was possible.
