Basic training in PC begins in internal medicine residency, where trainees gain competency in skills such as end-of-life communication and symptom management. General cardiology fellows are then expected to further their understanding of PC, specifically as it applies to cardiovascular disease management ( 7 , 8 ). Once fellows-in-training (FITs) reach AHFTC fellowship, training expectations are outlined by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and the American College of Cardiology Competency Management Committee ( 9 ). Educational objectives for AHFTC fellowship include addressing quality of life, symptoms, and goals of care for patients with advanced HF, initiating PC when appropriate, understanding the role of PC and hospice, and managing palliative inotropes and mechanical circulatory support for patients who are terminally ill.
