Abstract

This comprehensive overview of food allergy (FA)-specific measures assessing food allergy-related psychosocial burden and quality of life (QoL) provides insights for researchers and clinicians to assess and improve the well-being of FA patients and their families via incorporation of these patient-reported outcomes measures into their work. Various domains have been identified for measurement, including FA-related QoL, FA anxiety and worry, FA management, FA self-efficacy, FA coping and adaption, FA bullying, and FA knowledge. Most available measures evaluate FA-related QoL, but additional domains, such as FA-related anxiety, are represented. Note that most, if not all of these measures are freely available to use. Further evaluation of all summarized measures in patient populations that reflect the full heterogeneity of the affected population is essential to enhancing our understanding of the unique challenges posed by FA and the impact of FA treatments, such as immunotherapy, on FA experiences and daily life, and to supporting the development of effective behavioral interventions for patients and caregivers that promote healthy adjustment to FA management.
