The measured quantum noises on the output signal and DF beams are shown in Fig. 2(right) as a function of the depletion parameter d. Also shown are the sum and difference noises obtained by summing and differencing the photocurrent outputs of the two detectors. The plotted noises are relative to the background thermal-plus-amplifier noise which has been subtracted from the data. For a fixed value of d the sum and difference noises are the same implying that there is no correlation in the noises on the output signal and DF beams. Also the sum and difference noises do not vary with d. Both these results are as expected from the theory outlined above. This work was supported in part by the U.S. Office of Naval Research.
