Scaffolding of polymers by supramolecular nanoribbons

The scaffolding of polymers using supramolecular nanoribbons was discussed. The use of dendron rod-coil (DRC) molecules for self assembly of molecular blocks was demonstrated. The gels formed by DRC molecules were thermally irreversible, showed no crosslinking and were completely soluble in organic solvents. The DRC moleclues were well suited for use as scaffold material and led to the retention of optical birefringence in monomeric soft gels, in hard polystyrene matrix and in macromolecular melts.
