Abstract
The article discusses several studies presented at a special session of the 2014 Association for Consumer Research (ACR) Conference, titled "Scarcity, Poverty, and Their Implications for Consumers' Cognitions, Judgment and Behavior." Topics covered include how living in a chronic state of scarcity impacts the content of consumers' cognition, the tendency of consumers from lower socioeconomic backgrounds to become materialistic, and the reciprocal nature of parent-child relationships from the context of evolutionary biology.
