Abstract

In order to select a mathematical model for seismic analysis of liquid filled tanks, the presently employed methods are reviewed. Certain areas, such as fluid elements modeling, linear and nonlinear analyses, imput data preparation and data reduction, effects of budget and timing constraints on tuning-up of models, combined horizontal and vertical excitations and shell vibrational modes, are evaluated. Results obtained from two tank models are included to demonstrate the needs of further analytical, numerical and/or experimental research in seismic analysis of liquid filled tanks.
