Abstract
Seizure of contact elements is a serious failure of tribological systems. Investigating seizure processes and understanding seizure mechanisms are important for failure prevention. Research on seizure failure can provide directions to improve designs of tribological elements for longer life and higher load capacity. This paper reviews the studies on seizure failure of journal-bearing conformal contacts. Some related research work on the failure of non-conformal contacts is also reviewed for comparison.
