Abstract

The strength behavior of a large number of uniform-size dry sands and a limited number of improved gradations was determined by use of triaxial compression tests, and the data were analyzed to evaluate the effects of particle characteristics and other test variables on the Coulomb and Rowe friction angles. Grain shape was characterized in terms of the mean roundness and the mean sphericity of the particles.
