Abstract

The design of an ac susceptometer that operates in the temperature range 0.5-500 K with a sensitivity of 10-7 emu is presented. The susceptibility is measured using a simple mutual inductance bridge with the pick-up coils kept at fixed temperature. The signals induced by the sample under investigation and a reference sample are compared and enable both the temperature and absolute susceptibility to be determined.
