Abstract

Although a variety of forming processes have been extensively simulated by the finite element method, there is a significant lack of work on the simulation of ring rolling process. The use of two classical methods, slab method and slip-line field method, can not provide accurate results due to unrealistic assumptions on the process. In this paper, the simulation of the ring rolling process is performed by the arbitrary Langrangian Eulerian finite element method. The consideration includes most of phenomenia associated with the process. The results, including the time history of roll separating force and driving torque as well as the distribution of the stresses and strains on the rolled ring, are presented.
