Abstract
General purpose software for the computational analysis of fluid flow and heat transfer offers the engineer helpful tools for use in analysis and design of fluid systems. Software for computational fluid dynamics is described here in terms of its applications, methodology, and format. The commercial software packages described in this article offer wide variety and extensive capabilities for the computational analysis of fluid flow and heat transfer. These capabilities continue to grow as fluid flow models are incorporated into the codes and faster, less expensive computers are available to run the codes. As a result of these growing capabilities, computational analysis will become an increasingly important tool for engineers involved in fluid flow analysis.
