Abstract

We examine a new technique for photochemical conversion of solar energy based on ligand photodissociation from metal complexes. We illustrate the concept with a photogalvanic cell in which voltages are generated by photodissociation of CO from carbonylferroheme and with a cell in which the illuminated electrode is coated with an iron tetraphenylporphyrin.
