Abstract
An apparatus for the gas phase infrared spectroscopic detection of coordinatively un-saturated metal carbonyls is described. Coordinatively unsaturated species are produced by UV photolysis. Infrared spectra of coordinatively unsaturated iron carbonyls are reported for the carbonyl stretch region. Rate constants for the reaction of Fe(CO)3 and Fe(CO)4 with CO are also reported. The photophysics of Fe(CO)x formation is discussed.
