Abstract

The stability of a containment dyke at a bauxite residue disposal site was analyzed in terms of rotational failure and flow. The dyke was constructed from alumina extraction waste slurry. Very low dyke slope angles were required for stability. An incremental dyke construction method allowing reasonable drying times between successive slurry placements is suggested.
