Abstract
The stability of a charged particle in a Penning-Ioffe trap was studied. The addition of radial magnetic field of Ioffe trap broke the axial symmetry of a Penning trap. The breakdown of the axial symmetry and a resulting confinement theorem was investigated. The stable orbits related to adiabatic invariants were identified and expressions for their frequencies were obtained.
