Abstract

Particles of aggregates were tested in tension and shear compression and cylinders of mortar and concrete were tested in compression and split cylinder mode. Partly based on theories of composite materials, an analytic expression was suggested which satisfactorily predicts the potential strength of aggregates in concrete. A possible use of this expression for optimum mix design of lightweight concrete is discussed.
