Abstract

In situ observations of the coarsening of alloy liquid-solid mixtures using synchrotron radiation micro-radiography yields statistical, microstructural, and crystallographic orientation data. Grain growth data for Al-5 wt pct Sn alloys show that corasening is controlled by diffusion in the liquid phase even though liquid exists only at the grain edges.
