Abstract

UNDER THE TITLE ‘Pride of Our Sex and Glory of the Stage’, a symposium on nineteenth-century British women plawrights, the first on this subject, will be held at Northwestern University on 1–2 August 1997. Papers that speak across the disciplines of Theatre, English, and History will be presented. While laying out a foundation for incorporating women into the history of nineteenth-century drama, the centre of gravity will concern the relationship between writing, theatrical milieux, and women's positioning in society.
