Abstract

A computer simulation model was developed to synthesize and evaluate the characteristics of polished surfaces. The model takes into consideration the separation between the abrasive tool and workpiece expressed in terms of a newly developed relationship based on plastic deformation of the asperities, statistical properties of the abrasive tool and the wear of the abrasive grains. The close agreement between experiments and the simulations, evaluated by the application of the two-dimensional discrete Fourier transform, authenticated the accuracy of the computer model. (A)
