title = "Synthesis of mixed conducting oxides by an organic steric entrapment method",
abstract = "Three compounds currently of interest as solid oxide fuel cell components (SOFC's) have been synthesized by the organic steric entrapment method. They were doped lanthanum gallate (La0.8Sr0.2Ga0.83Mg0.17O 0.2815) or {"}LSGM{"}, samarium doped, cerium oxide (Ce0.8Sm0.2O2-δ) and strontium iron cobaltite (SrFeCo0.5O3-δ). While XRD results indicated that the Ce0.8Sm0.2O2-δ, SrFeCo0.5Ox and LSGM specimens were single phase, SEM observations showed the presence of a grain boundary phase homogeneously surrounding grains in the LSGM specimen. Pellets of LSGM were measured by AC impedance spectroscopy, yielding reliable data in the temperature range from 340°C to 830°C. Some degree of microcracking was also observed in the LSGM microstructure which is most likely responsible for the reduced conductivities vis-{\`a}-vis the best literature values. The LSGM here fabricated was fine grained (∼4 μm in diameter) as compared to the ∼15μm of previous literature such that grain boundaries will play a more dominant role. Elongated grains were clearly present in the SrFeCo0.5Ox microstructure.",
