Abstract
The influence of types, sizes, and volumes of wire meshes on elastic, cracking, and ultimate behavior of ferrocement in uniaxial tension was studied. It was observed that the ultimate strength of ferrocement is the same as that of mesh alone while its modulus of elasticity can be predicted from those of mortar and mesh. The specific surface of the reinforcement strongly influenced the cracking behavior of ferrocement. An analytic relation between crack spacing and the specific surface of the reinforcement was developed.
