Abstract

The paper summarizes a study of the phase diagram behavior of a model membrane forming system, PPO left bracket poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) right bracket in either pure trichloroethylene or mixtures with octanol as the solvent with methanol or ethanol as the nonsolvent. The objective has been to evaluate various aspects of the phase diagram including liquid-liquid and liquid-crystal regions as well as the existence of a glass transition region and their possible relation to gelation and skin formation during membrane precipitation.
