Abstract

The Arab Telecommunication market has been witnessing an important change over the last decade. Transformations have occurred in the broadcasting industry as satellite television has disrupted the traditional stability of the broadcasting market. Transformations have also occurred in the internet industry as connectivity rates have grown tremendously in free oriented markets in many Arab countries. The Arab region occupies a large geographical area, about 10% of the earth’s surface. It straddles two continents, Africa and Asia, on a surface estimated at 14 million square kilometers, or 8, 699, 000 square miles. Arab countries are stretched from the Atlantic Ocean in the west to the Arab Gulf in the east and from the Mediterranean Sea in the north to Central Africa in the south. Media markets in the Arab region benefit from cultural similarities. Arabic is the official and dominant language for all Arab countries although dialects vary between countries and regions.
