Abstract

The bulk shipping market has enjoyed a robust environment and should remain so as China continues to expand economically. However, challenges in the financial arena will continue to grow as the market continues to evolve. Financial sources will follow the trend of ship owners moving east to China and other Asian countries. Ship owners and builders will have to deliver a well-defined long-term Strategic Capital Plan including the vision for their company beyond a simply long-term charter to be successful in obtaining financing. The Plan has to be based on a detailed description of all aspects of a corporation's operation, present and future.
