Abstract

Part of being a nursing administrator is making decisions within the context of one’s organization. In this article by Chester Barnard, with commentary by Marjorie Beyers, the environment of decision making is described. A discussion of those areas in which decision making is appropriate, and those areas in which it is not is included. In this piece Beyers comments on Barnard’s statements, adding emphasis to applications for the nurse administrator. Beyers’ comments are in italics.
