Abstract

The future of television carries many useful yet also contradictory meanings. As a description of an impending experience that is interconnected more than ever before through technology across time and space, this chapter certainly makes sense: it aims to describe the state of contemporary economic, political, and cultural structures and their impact on television technologies in the Arab world. Throughout this chapter, I will emphasize three overlapping areas for examining a rapidly changing media landscape: the history of Arab broadcasting, the structure of Arab television, and the existing distribution technologies.
